Principal's Message
Longfellow Elementary School is a school that is dedicated to the success of individual students. Longfellow School is very student centered. All decisions are made based on what is best for our students. Meeting the needs of each student academically, emotionally, and socially is our purpose. In order to accomplish this goal, students, families and staff collaborate effectively. Longfellow uses a TEAM approach where "Together Everyone Achieves More".
Academically students are provided multiple opportunities to achieve success in the classroom. Teachers differentiate instruction to meet the academic needs of each individual student. This is accomplished through the use of multiple strategies and interventions for small group instruction or individualized instruction. It is essential that students are engaged in their own learning process and feel empowered to reach goals.
Teachers and staff build strong relationships with students at Longfellow Elementary so that students feel comfortable and empowered to take risks in their learning. Providing opportunities for students to question and utilize thinking strategies provides tools for students to be successful. Working collaboratively with others in the classroom setting will allow students to develop strong social skills. Setting high expectations for students academically and socially provides a safe environment for students to learn.
Longfellow Elementary is fortunate to have an active parent organization. These parents meet on a monthly basis to organize activities that will assist families in supporting students in a home - school connection. Book fairs, family activities, and fundraisers are just a few of the activities that the parents organize throughout the year.
Longfellow Elementary provides opportunities to support the whole child. Our students are provided opportunities through a music program, physical education classes, art, library, and computer classes. We also have a school counselor and a nursing staff available to assist students and families. Title I services in Reading and Math are available for our students. Special Education services are available. We have resource room support, occupational therapy, hearing and speech services, and physical therapy available to support our students.
At Longfellow we are proud of our students, staff, and families. We are proud to belong to a school community where a strong work ethic and collaboration with each other are among our top priorities.
