5 Reasons to Choose SBPS
A Tradition of Academic Achievement
Scottsbluff Public Schools emphasize clearly articulated and aligned curricula that carry high expectations for all students, in all schools, in all classrooms. Rigorous
secondary course offerings
extend an outstanding
early childhood
and elementary school foundation. Particularly important examples include
honors course
designations and accelerated coursework at the middle school as well as Advanced Placement, college level (dual) Credit, and an authentic wall-to-wall Career Academy at SHS which is interest driven and rooted in hands-on experiences. SHS has a rich and consistent history of National Merit Scholars and graduates who regularly attend the top, most exclusive universities around the country.
Exciting Student Activities
Throughout elementary, middle and high school, all students have opportunities to participate in a remarkably deep and broad activities program in SBPS.From award winning sports and performance arts, Career and Technical student organizations for every academy, and clubs driven by student interest, there is a place for every student to feel involved and engaged.
Ultra-Modern, Cutting Edge Facilities
Thanks to the support and generosity of an amazing community, with the completion of the
new Scottsbluff High School
, SBPS stands alone in terms of the quality of its school facilities. Combined with the storied tradition of well-maintained and historical elementary schools which are currently undergoing a transformative modernization, students’ PK-12 experiences – including a totally remodeled
preschool
and “birth-three”
Sixpence
facility – are unrivaled anywhere in the region. Integration of technology and state-of-the art facilities for learning can be used flexibly and responsively depending upon the individual and changing needs of students. At SBPS our educational environments are very special and enhance teaching and learning in very real ways, every day. And the best part is, they’re just getting better!
A Caring and Dedicated Staff
At the heart of any school district is its people. SBPS is able to attract the very best in all areas and it’s easy to see when one enters any of our schools. From the welcoming attitude of our secretaries in our school offices to our maintenance team that proudly cares for many tens of thousands of square feet of buildings and countless acres of lawns and fields, our support staff is driven by pride in excellence. Similarly, our teachers and principals approach their work with a districtwide commitment to “Every Child, Every Day” – our school district’s signature mission. SBPS teachers have been honored in recent years as
Nebraska Teacher of the Year
(Shelby Aaberg, 2015) and
Nebraska Middle Level Outstanding Educator
(Dave Griess, 2015). Lincoln Heights was identified as a
National Title School of Excellence
that same year. These examples are among the many that are reflective of the quality people we are so fortunate to have throughout all our schools.
Supportive Community Partnerships
Perhaps the greatest attribute of our school system is our community. The people of Scottsbluff have no higher priority than its children and this dedication is visible in so many partnerships that our district has with private business, local government and public agencies and individuals and families throughout this town. As evidenced by the 2014 overwhelming support of the new high school bond election, Scottsbluff’s people express these sentiments through much more than just words. Many dozens of area businesses have partnered with our Career Academies. We have a newly revitalized
Scottsbluff School Foundation
and an amazingly supportive
Board of Education
. SBPS is a great school district because it is part of such a great community of people!
